MemberThis definitely has a FoE vibe to it. Granted, that’s pretty much what RBF is at this point.
In any case, I like it!
Here’s the track list, or what I can make out from the shitty quality:
Everyone Else is an Asshole
Punisher
She’s Not the End of the World
Don’t Let Me Down Gently
I Know You Too Well to Like You Anymore
Hiding in My Headphones
I Dare You to Break My Heart
Your Girlfriend Sucks
Don’t Stop Skankin’
Famous Last Words
Lost Cause
I Love/You Suck
P.S. I Hate You
The Promise“I Dare You to Break My Heart” will have a music video, which seems like a weird choice since it sounds very poppy. Almost like Good Thing.

AngryOpossumMemberIs one of those a cover? They mentioned there was an 80s cover via Facebook.

MemberSomeone mentioned that “Don’t Stop Skankin” is a cover of “Don’t Stop Believing”
Also, one thing I noticed about this is that the mixing and mastering is SO much better than anything they’ve released since Cheer Up

Member“Don’t Let Me Down, Gently” is a Wonderstuff cover. I think it’s the first song in the video.

MemberWhere did you hear I Dare You to Break My Heart was getting a video? Not that I mind, it was one of my favorites in the preview (did you know Reel Big Fish is influenced by Poison? IT’S TRUE!!!) behind I Know You Well to Like You Anymore (but what the hell…a fart joke?) and Lost Cause. I can already tell that song is going to kick ass, I play the preview in my car just to hear it.
Why isn’t this album out yet? It’s not the album they should be making at this point in their career, but it sounds like it’ll be a good one nonetheless. -

Sonic LibidoMemberFrom the sound of this, I’m really going to like this album. A total curve ball from the sound that Monkeys sounded like it was heading towards. I really like the production sound (the use of double-tracked vocals is a nice touch). Matt’s sax is a noticed and welcomed addition, he seems to be filling the harmony void quite well, too. A release date would be swell.

SamuMemberThe first two minutes of the preview did NOT really impress me, sadly. I’ll have to get home to watch the entire clip but my first impression is… meh.
Much like in my worst fears, the songs sound like the Fish wanting to “stay true to the (highly predictable) ska-punk roots”, instead of experimenting something new (which is why I like them so much in the first place). I hope I’m proven completely wrong when the album comes out.Oh and I’m not one of those hypercritic fans… I even give them a break on Monkeys (except the only girlfriend song they have missed so far). -
June 7, 2012 at 11:11 pm #28200
Gabriel RedondoMemberactually this preview sounds like 432432432x times better than Monkeys… and like 3423483274923423x better than We’re not happy… (but this album name and cover it’s better than “candy coated fury”)
this preview actually got me excited, something that didn’t happened with an RBF album since Cheer Up.
I (like to) see this album like a FoE album, and totally sounds like it.

ReelBigCohenMemberThe Promise is the new cover song. Originally done by When in Rome. It was featured in Napoleon Dynamite during the end credits. This album sounds freakin awesome. It’s about damn time they have a fart joke in a song. How hasn’t it been done yet…. and Samu, what the fuck are you talking about?!?

SamuMemberAs I said: I hope to be proven completely wrong. I’ll listen again to it today in the “free internet hour” we get at work.
But I had this fear ever since I talked to Matt last February and he said that the songs “sound like the usual RBF sound”. This statement made me afraid of a possible involution of their style – which, on the contrary, has been constantly developing over the years. This means nothing more than its meaning though… I will always love this band no matter if they put out material I don’t like as much as I wished I would, as long as they play the music that they want to play.(or maybe I had too much high expectations on this album?) -
June 8, 2012 at 11:18 am #28210
SamuMemberOK, I have to say it gets much better in the second part of the preview. Now I can hope.
-
June 8, 2012 at 4:51 pm #28211
The WindMemberMy bet is placed on Aaron having written most of these songs in 2004. They may have well just recorded the Four Song Obituary tracks and put them on here.
It will be nice to see another Forces of Evil album, and that’s how I will look at it. It will make me appreciate it more and not be mournful over Reel Big Fish. -

I just want to hear the album already, this is torturous. -

Gabriel RedondoMemberi like more the first half of the preview than the second half, “i know you too well…” sounds great, P.S. i hate you sounds great too, the fast punk one sounds, well, very fast punk and thats great too haha.
i think i have listened this preview like 400 times already hahaha.

-
June 12, 2012 at 1:27 am #28254
Gabriel RedondoMemberi think it was very FoE-ish, that made it so great for me.
-
June 12, 2012 at 3:30 am #28256
sophie MemberMeh. I did hear the FOE sound in the preview but not really in the complete song .
I guess the album is gonna be a mix of both. -
June 12, 2012 at 3:34 am #28257
jrock241MemberYeah, I got the FOE vibe a bit. 1:06 to 1:14 reminds me of Nothin’. I’m liking it.
Good Job Aaron! So Scott was dead weight all along…. hmm.
-
June 12, 2012 at 4:17 am #28262
Gabriel RedondoMemberthe lyrics is very FOE…i know that RBF lyrics are hateful, but not as much as FOE, this song has a lot of cursing hahaha… but, yes, the preview has a lot more FOE vibe than in this song
-
June 12, 2012 at 12:03 pm #28274
SamuMemberNot bad… not bad at all. Actually I’m really getting into this song.
Great bass sound. It sounds a bit like Catch 22, doesn’t it? That little pause before “anymore”.Even the “highly predictable” horns bit turns out to fit well into the song – not annoying at all.Good, good, good. -

MemberI was actually a little worried about Derek’s playing on this album, as his style has been a little more…bland than Matt’s I guess, but the bass line for this song is great. And Ryland’s drumming, with the exception of the incessant snare fills he insists on playing, is top-notch.
